I had been teaching my three-year old daughter, Caitlin, the Lord's Prayer for several evenings at bedtime. She would repeat after me the lines from the prayer. Finally, she decided to go solo. I listened with pride as she carefully enunciated each word, right up to the end of the prayer: "Lead us not into temptation," she prayed, "but deliver us from E-mail.

Have you ever wondered, “What is the point?” There was a depressing song that became popular years ago called, “Is That All There Is?” That song was a fitting description of how many people face every day, and go to bed every night. Is that all there is? Is my life really supposed to be about just getting up, going through the routine (some might even say RUT), going home to sleep and getting up to do it all over again, day after day? Even though it we may think that is just how things are, I want to tell you there is more! The God who created us has a much more meaningful, joyful and exciting plan for us, if we will buy into it. The life of a disciple of Jesus Christ can be, should be, incredible!. We get to live every day in the presence of the King of the universe, doing the work of the Redeemer of all humanity right along side that Redeemer, Jesus Christ. We get to revel in the knowledge that this all-powerful God not only knows my name, but knows about and cares about everything that happens to me. We get to rest in the sure knowledge that the Lord will never make us go through anything alone, but promises to walk right alongside, every step of the way. So what does it take to experience such a life? What makes the difference between a life just gotten through and one filled with meaning? The secret is really no secret at all. Jesus told those who would follow him what the key was to having a life that mattered, and that is to surrender everything to serving God and his kingdom. Luke 9:23-24 quotes Jesus’ words, "If any want to become my followers, let them deny themselves and take up their cross daily and follow me. For those who want to save their life will lose it, and those who lose their life for my sake will save it.
The key to joy, meaning and fulfillment in life is to stop chasing after them and devote yourself to doing the work & will of God in the world around you. Become part of something much bigger than yourself; become part of God’s mission to redeem the entire world. That is a big enough task as to make everything else in life seem less overwhelming.
Here at Williamstown United Methodist Church we are working on rediscovering our place in God’s plan for the world. We are seeking to see once again the purposes for which the Lord has us here. We know they are as big as God’s heart. We invite you to take your place with us on this journey. Come be part of something much bigger than yourself. Come be part of the plan God set in place from before the foundation of the world, a plan to redeem all people to himself. I guarantee, if you truly give your life to such a cause, life will never be the same.

See you Sunday!

Daily Memory Verse

1 Corinthians 1:18 For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God .
